SAN DIEGO - Arizona (6-0) won its first road match of the season after completing a 5-2 victory over San Diego (2-3) on Friday in San Diego, Calif.
"This was an outstanding effort by our team," said head coach
Vicky Maes. "We knew we were in for a battle after we lost the doubles point but our girls fought tooth and nail in the singles to beat a very good San Diego team. I was very happy for Paris to clinch the match. This was invaluable experience for her that will make her an even better player down the road. It must be said that Sam's effort and intensity on the court next to her really helped both girls pull in those close matches and give us the 5-2 win."
The Cats faced an uphill battle after losing the doubles point.
Paris Corley and
Marie Van Aelst fell to Anderson/Torres 6-3. Shortly after,
Devin Chypyha and
Camila Wesbrooks dropped a 6-4 match to Chow/Kukaras. At the time the doubles point was clinched,
Lauren Marker and
Samantha Czarniak were locked in a 5-5 duel with DiFilippo/Morales.

Despite trailing 1-0, Arizona kept its composure in the singles draw. No. 32 Marker tied the match quickly, with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Nicole Anderson.
