Freshman blocker
Caroline Cordes comes from a family of Wildcats. With her father Bill Cordes standing as one of our former football players and her brother Kevin as a former NCAA Champion for Arizona, she has always been surrounded with the passionate Wildcat spirit and embodies it. Caroline was named MVP her junior year for Waubonsie Valley High School and plans to make an impact during her time here on the sand as well. She was also Academic All-Conference for all four years of high school. She looks to improve technique to positively benefit her teammates and continues to be an addition to the fun-filled, yet hardworking team.
Arizona Beach Volleyball kicks off the 2017 season on Feb. 24 for the Red-Blue Scrimmage. The first match for the Wildcats comes March 3rd against Jacksonville.
ArizonaWildcats.com sat down with freshman Caroline Cordes from Naperville, Illinois to learn more about her thoughts on the upcoming season.
Q: What has been the biggest adjustment in transitioning to play at the collegiate level?
A: "The biggest adjustment would probably be lifting as hard as we do every day. We always max lift. So that has been something I've had to get used to."
Q: What is the thing that you are most looking forward to as the season gets underway?
A: "I'm really excited for Hawaii when we go there to play a tournament." On March 17 and 18 the Wildcats head to Honolulu, Hawaii where they will compete against Nebraska, Florida State, USC, Hawaii Pacific, and Utah.
Q: Is there anyone you look up to on the team or model your game after?
A: "I definitely look up to all the upperclassmen because they've been here, and they know what they are doing. Obviously the twins (Madison and Mckenna Witt) are amazing but Olivia (Macdonald) is my position as a blocker, so her as well."
Q: Favorite thing about the University of Arizona so far?
A: "It would definitely be my team and all of my teammates. They are all awesome! It's great to be a Wildcat." Cordes comes from a family of Wildcats, her father Bill played football at the University of Arizona and her brother Kevin is a former NCAA Champion for Arizona.
Q: What do you want to improve most on from a personal standpoint?
A: "Personally, I'm working on my serve receive and my offensive game."
Q: Who is the funniest person on the team?
A: "The funniest person on the team is Olivia (Macdonald) because she is from New Zealand and has a really funny accent."
Q: What has the team most improved upon as practice has started?
A: "We had a meeting last week on being more fearless and relentless, so that is something as a team we have been working and improving on."
