Wildcats Finish Fifth at the SDSU March Mayhem

The University of Arizona women's golf team completed the final two rounds of the SDSU March Mayhem in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. on Tuesday. The Wildcats won both matches of the day defeating Northwestern and Old Dominion to earn a fifth place finish.
"It was a great day beating Northwestern who is a top program in the country," said coach Laura Ianello. "The ladies played 72 holes in 48 hours and I'm so proud of how they fought! Old Dominion played tough and we were able to come up winning 4-1. Krystal Quihuis and Wanasa Zhou were both three down after nine holes and came back to win their matches."
In the first matchup of the day Arizona defeated Northwestern 3-2. Sophomore Haley Moore won 3&1, sophomore Gigi Stoll defeated her opponent 2&1, and freshman Sandra Nordaas won 4&2. Sophomore Krystal Quihuis and senior Wanasa Zhou both lost their respective matches.
Later in the day in the fifth place match against Old Dominion the Cats won 4-1. Moore dominated by winning 6&5; Stoll won 3&1 as well as both Quihuis and Zhou winning their matches by one hole.
USC defeated BYU in the tournament championship to earn a first place finish. The tournament was originally scheduled to finish Wednesday, but due to weather concerns the final round was played on Tuesday.
The Wildcats will next be in action April 7-9 in Tempe, Ariz. at the PING ASU Invitational.
