Wildcats Fall to No. 41 Denver 5-2

TUCSON, Ariz. - Arizona (10-7) lost a nonconference home match to No. 41 Denver (9-6) on Friday, Mar. 31 at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.

"It's always tough to lose a close match, but this one hurts a little extra because we had our chances," said head coach Vicky Maes. "Despite the setbacks and challenges of this season, we know we can still compete with everyone, so letting our opportunities slip away is costly. Regardless, we must remain positive and keep fighting. It is the only way to do things."

Dealing with two injuries and two players suffering from illness, Arizona was only able to field five players at the start of the match. Thus, they defaulted on court No. 3, meaning Denver only had to secure one of the two matches taking place. They were able to do so when Mok/Barnhill defeated Camila Wesbrooks and Marie Van Aelst 6-4. At the time the point was clinched, Lauren Marker and Paris Corley trailed No. 13 O'Loughlin/Slattery 4-3.

The Cats were able to field a full lineup for the singles action. However, the Pioneers went on to win the first three matches to clinch the match. Bianca Mok defeated Wesbrooks 6-3, 6-3. Arisha Ladhani beat Maggie Cohen 6-0, 6-3. Sonja Radosevic's 6-3, 6-4 win over Van Aelst sealed Denver's win. Arizona rebounded with victories at the top two courts. No. 119 Corley defeated No. 116 Maureen Slattery 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 to continue her great start to her Arizona career. #29 Marker scratched out a hard-earned win over Julia O'Loughlin 4-6, 6-0, 6-1. Sophia Thomas played her second consecutive three set match, but fell to Claire Koke 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2).
