DALLAS, Texas - Arizona (8-3) lost a tightly contested 4-3 match to SMU (10-2) on Sunday in Dallas, Texas.

"Today was definitely a heartbreaking loss," said head coach Vicky Maes. "We did such a great job winning that doubles point, but we could not keep up the momentum in singles. It's times like these where our inexperience shows. We need to be able to do a better job when ahead and a more flexible job when behind. I will say that the effort and focus was much better than yesterday and for that I was really happy with the team. A win would have made a lot of things better, but as it stands we came up a little short. Now we have to shift our focus to conference play and hopefully do that having learned a thing or two from this weekend's experience."

After the match was moved indoors due to rain, Arizona started off well by winning the doubles point. Lauren Marker and Paris Corley secured a 6-4 victory over Buss/Sharapova. On court three, Marie Van Aelst and Maggie Cohen fell to Wright/Elliott 6-4. The doubles point came down to court two, and Devin Chypyha and Camila Wesbrooks completed a hard-fought 7-5 win over Perez-Lopez/Yesaki.
 
No. 27 Marker continued her hot streak with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Liza Buss. The Mustangs got on the scoreboard when Dasha Sharapova defeated Van Aelst 6-3, 6-3. Mary Wright tied the match when she beat Cohen 7-5, 6-2. Wesbrooks put the Cats ahead with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 win over Ellie Zogg. Corley dropped a three set match to Sarai Monarrez Yesaki 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. That set the stage for a battle between Chypyha and Ana Perez-Lopez to decide the seventh and final point. The match did not disappoint, as it came down to a close third set, in which Perez-Lopez pulled off a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory to clinch a 4-3 SMU win.
