SEATTLE, Wash. - Arizona (10-9, 1-6 Pac-12) fell 7-0 in a conference road match to Washington (15-5, 4-2 Pac-12) on Friday, Apr. 7 in Seattle.
"We were not ourselves today," said head coach
Vicky Maes. "We came out flat and were never able to gain any sort of momentum. I've been so impressed all year by our group's effort, but today was a different story. We have to leave this behind us, regroup, and put together a better match on Sunday."
The Wildcats dug themselves in an early hole by losing the doubles point.
Sophia Thomas and
Camila Wesbrooks fell 6-1 to Fung/Hance.
Samantha Czarniak and
Marie Van Aelst dropped a 6-2 match to Kopcalic/Slavica to clinch the point for Washington.
Paris Corley and
Lauren Marker were tied with No. 44 Abbes/Kobayashi 4-4 before the point was clinched.
Arizona was not able to make up any ground in the singles action. In her dual match debut,
Elena Schneider lost 6-1, 6-1 to Katarina Kopcalic. Van Aelst fell 6-0, 6-2 to Kenadi Hance. Alexis Prokopuik defeated Thomas 6-2, 6-2 to clinch the match for Washington. Wesbrooks battled Nour Abbes closely, but fell in a third set tiebreaker 6-7, 6-0, 1-0 (10-0). Arizona's two ranked players matched up against two ranked Huskies. No. 123 Miki Kobayashi got the best of No. 113 Corley 7-6(4), 6-0. In the last match of the day, No. 27 Marker lost to No. 50 Stacey Fung 7-5, 6-3.
