TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Arizona's Track & Field program is represented by three student-athletes on this year's CoSIDA Academic All-America team as
Aaron Castle,
Sage Watson and
Lisanne Hagens were honored on Friday.
Castle was named to the First Team after earning a 3.78 GPA while studying Biology during his senior year and is now a two-time Academic All-American as he was a third-team selection in 2015. Most recently, Castle was named to his fourth Pac-12 All-Academic First Team and finished out his college career as a four-time All-American after finishing in 15th place at the NCAA Championships.
Both Watson and Hagens were named to the Second Team for their efforts in the classroom. The two are making their debuts on the Academic All-America team, but they are no strangers to academic honors.
Watson earned her first Pac-12 All-Academic recognition last week while sporting a 3.90 GPA studying Marketing. The Canadian Olympian won the 400-meter hurdles National Championship by clocking a personal-best time of 54.52 back on June 10.
Hagens earned her third-consecutive Pac-12 All-Academic first-team honor last week with a GPA of 3.93 while studying Mechanical Engineering. The incoming senior took 10th place in the high jump at the National Championships. Hagens was also named MPSF All-Academic during the indoor season this past year.
Castle, Watson and Hagens make up three of the five Pac-12 student-athletes that were named to an Academic All-America team.
It was quite the semester for the Track Cats as the women's team had a GPA of 3.22 while the men's team had a GPA of 2.99, which are both records for the spring semester. Eight women and four men had GPAs of 4.0 while 21 women and 15 men had a GPA of 3.0 or better.
