Cats to Compete in Larry Wieczorek Invitational

Tucson, Ariz. – The University of Arizona track and field program will compete in the second annual Larry Wieczorek Invitational, hosted by the University of Iowa, on Jan. 19-20 in the UI Recreation building.

"I think this is going to be a really nice test for us," said head track and field coach Fred Harvey. "It's early season, but our indoor season is so short to begin with. We have some exciting teams that we are going to get the opportunity to compete with in a number of really high quality indoor teams. I thought we got off to a good start last week to try to see what we have as a team. Now this week, the competition level spiked up dramatically. We have to be able to go out and compete at the level we know we are capable of doing so. We are going to add a few more people into the fold. Matthew Treston will appear in the high hurdles, we are going to try and see if we can get an NCAA qualifying mark in the 4x400s, the distance crew will be making their opener. It is a great track, considered to be one of the fastest tracks in the United States if not the world. Athletes like Carlos Villarreal will get a chance to open up in the mile and I think he is going to do awesome there. Collins Kibet will open up in the 800. Bailey Roth will open up in his first indoor meet. We have a great variety of athletes that we are really excited about getting to see run. Claire Green, Addi Zerrenner will run this weekend. It will be a great team effort and we are excited to see how we stack up."
