TUCSON, Ariz. -- Four Wildcats, three past and one present, are set to participate in the USA Softball 2019 Women's National Team Selection Camp, January 2-6 in Clearwater, Florida.
Junior catcher
Dejah Mulipola and alumnae Chelsea Goodacre (2015),
Mo Mercado (2017) and
Danielle O'Toole (2017) all received invitations to the camp, which begins on Wednesday.
The four Wildcats are part of the 41 athletes vying for 18 spots on the 2019 USA Softball WNT Training Team roster that will compete at the USA Softball International Cup and select international events. The roster will then be trimmed to 15 athletes to participate in the Pan American Games, slated for July 31-August 11 in Lima, Peru.
Arizona's four athletes are the third most among all teams nationally behind Florida (7) and Oklahoma (5). The Pac-12 leads the way with 18 invitees.
O'Toole, a first-team All-American and Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year in 2017, has competed for USA Softball each of the last two summers and helped lead the USA to a World Championship and a berth into the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
Mercado, a second-team All-American in 2017 that remains on staff with the Wildcats, and Mulipola, who enters her junior year in 2019 after a second-team all-conference season with the Wildcats last year, competed for USA Softball this summer on the Japan All-Star Series roster. The two also played for the U.S. Junior National Team in the past.
Goodacre, a second-team All-American in 2015, recently completed her fourth professional season with the USSSA Pride. The 2017 Gold Glove winner is coming off a championship-winning season with the Pride and finished second in the NPF in both RBI (33) and doubles (9).
