Cats Set for Final Exhibition Game

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Fresh off a 95-44 win over Western New Mexico in their opening exhibition game, the Arizona Wildcats are set to host Chaminade in their final exhibition game Sunday night. The game against the Silverswords will serve as the team's final tuneup before opening the regular season Wednesday against Houston Baptist.

Sunday's game is scheduled for a 7:06 p.m., tip-off and will be televised by the Pac-12 Networks with Daron Sutton and Steve Lavin on the call.

Arizona welcomes in Chaminade for its second and final exhibition game of the season. Arizona is coming off a 95-44 win over Western New Mexico. Chaminade traveled to San Diego State and dropped a close affair, 68-63.
Against Western New Mexico, Arizona went 11 of 26 from the 3-point line. The 11 3-pointers were the most by the Wildcats in an exhibition game since hitting 11 against Humboldt State in 2012. Arizona had five different players hit at least one 3-pointer against Western New Mexico.
The Wildcats assisted on 21 of 37 field goals in the win over Western New Mexico. Justin Coleman, Brandon Williams and Emmanuel Akot all had three or more assists in the win.
Sophomore guard Brandon Randolph led Arizona in scoring in its first exhibition game. The Yonkers, New York native had a game-high 20 points and was a perfect 5 of 5 from 3-point range. He was 6 of 8 from the field total in 24 minutes and added four rebounds, two assists and three steals.
The Wildcats had five players score in double figures against Western New Mexico. Randolph led the way with 20 points. Freshman Brandon Williams had 14 in his debut, while Ryan Luther added 13. Ira Lee and Emmanuel Akot each had 10 points. Williams led Arizona in minutes played, with just more than 24 minutes and also led the Wildcats with three steals.
Chaminade was led by Grant Dressler in its opening exhibition game against San Diego State. Dressler had 18 points and five rebounds in 27 minutes against the Aztecs. Andre Arissol finished with 13 points in 28 minutes.
After falling behind 2-0 to Western New Mexico on Tuesday, Arizona rattled off a 21-0 run over the next six minutes to take control of the game and never looked back from there.

THE LAST TIME
Arizona opened its 200-2001 season at the Maui Invitational against Chaminade in the two teams' only previous meeting. Arizona outlasted Chaminade 97-57 and had five players score in double figures. Richard Jefferson led the way with 16 points and six rebounds in 26 minutes. Michael Wright had 15 points and a game-high 19 rebounds, while Gilbert Arenas also added 14 points. Eugene Edgerson had 13 points and seven rebounds off the bench. Arizona defeated Dayton 76-59 the next day to advance to the championship game of the Maui Invitational. The Cats then topped Illinois 79-76 in the championship game to win the tournament. Jason Gardner led the way in the finale with 25 points in 32 minutes.

"C" IS FOR CAPTAIN
Senior guard Justin Coleman and junior big man Chase Jeter were elected co-captains of the Wildcats prior to the season. And in a new wrinkle, both players will wear a "C" on their jerseys to display the honor. Jeter missed the opening exhibition game with an injury that coach Sean Miller labeled as "short-term." Coleman started and played 22 minutes, leading the team with six assists. He also added five rebounds and four points in the win. Interestingly, both players are transfers and have yet to play a regular season game for the Wildcats. Jeter began his career at Duke, while Coleman began at Alabama, before transferring to Samford.

WILLIAMS GOES GOLD
In every Arizona practice, one player wears a gold jersey, while the rest wear red or blue. The gold jersey is given to the player who has totaled the most points in practice in a variety of categories. Coach Sean Miller charts several different areas during practice, including scoring, rebounding, assists, turnovers, hustle plays and several others. Junior big man Chase Jeter and senior forward Ryan Luther each won the gold jersey during the first weeks of practice. But freshman guard Brandon Williams is currently wearing the gold jersey, and is the first freshman to earn those honors this season. Williams started at one of the guard spots Tuesday against Western New Mexico and finished with 14 points in 24 minutes. The Wildcats were +39 with Williams on the court Tuesday, which was the second-best plus-minus mark behind Brandon Randolph, who was +40.

DESJARDINS GIVES QUALITY MINUTES
Coach Sean Miller awarded junior forward Jake DesJardins a scholarship in the offseason after two seasons with the Wildcats. A walk-on at the start, DesJardins made the most of his first minutes as a scholarship player against Western New Mexico. DesJardins played eight minutes with Chase Jeter sidelined with an injury. He had seven points, three rebounds and an assist, drawing Miller's praise after the game.

SOPHOMORE SUCCESS
Arizona will rely heavily on its sophomores this season and the group of Ira Lee, Brandon Randolph, Alex Barcello and Emmanuel Akot got off to a good start against Western New Mexico. Randolph was the team's leading scorer with 20 points, while Lee and Akot each had 10 points. Barcello added four points and four rebounds. The 44 combined points by the quartet was just shy of 50 percent of the scoring for the Wildcats against Western New Mexico. Randolph is the most experienced of the group. He averaged 11.6 minutes per game last season as a true freshman and played in 32 games with four starts.
