TUCSON, Ariz. - Arizona (6-2) dropped their first road match of the year 4-1 to UNLV (7-3) on Friday.
The UNLV Rebels won the doubles point with wins on courts one (6-0) and two (6-3), leaving the third match unfinished.
Junior No. 63 Aiwen Zhu continued UNLV's success with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over senior
Devin Chypyha. Fellow Rebel junior Anna Bogoslavets won over freshman
Talya Zandberg, 6-1, 6-4. Sophomore En-Pei Huang defeated junior
Camila Wesbrooks 7-6, 6-0 to clinch the match.
Arizona freshman
Gitte Heynemans beat UNLV sophomore Samantha Li 7-6, 6-0 to secure the Wildcats' sole point of the match.
"UNLV played a great match today," said head coach
Vicky Maes. "We had some opportunities halfway through the singles, but we couldn't convert. A few key points made all the difference. I think our biggest problem was that we played passive in the doubles and that carried over in the early part of singles too. We cannot afford to let our opponents take early leads like that."
The Wildcats will face University of Wisconsin on Saturday, Feb 17 at 11 a.m. MST.
