SANTA MONICA, Calif. -- The 11th-ranked Arizona beach volleyball team dropped its first two matches of the Pac-12 South Invitational on Saturday, falling to No. 2 UCLA, 5-0, and No. 15 Stanford, 3-2, on day 1 of the invitational.

The second-ranked Bruins swept the Cats to open the day.

In UA's second match of the day, the Cats fell 3-2 to the 15th-ranked Cardinal. Hailey Devlin and Stephany Purdue, Arizona's No. 4 pairing, won their match in three sets (17-21, 21-15, 15-11) over Payton Chang and Catherine Raquel, and No. 5 pairing Jonny Baham and Brooke Burling defeated Kat Anderson and Caitlin Keefe in straight sets (21-10, 21-14), but Stanford won the top three pairings to take the match.

The Wildcats, who fell to 9-5 on the season with the two losses, continue the Pac-12 South Invitational on Sunday, taking on the hosts of the tournament, fourth-ranked USC at 10 a.m. and No. 16 Cal at 2 p.m. MST.
