STANFORD, Calif. -- The No. 5 seeded Arizona Wildcats fell to host Stanford, the tournament's No. 4 seed, in the opening round of the Pac-12 Championship, 1-4.

The Cats (19-11) competed in their first match of the championship and fell 1-4 to hosts Stanford (17-11). Arizona's No. 5 pair of Caroline Cordes and Makenna Martin were the first to put points on the board for the Cats as they downed Cardinals Shannon Anderson and Blake Sharp, 21-15, 21-17.

Next, Arizona's No. 4 and No. 2 pairs fell to Stanford in straight sets. The No. 3 tandem of Hailey Devlin and Stephany Purdue took their match to three sets, but fell 21-18, 16-21, 15-7 to Kate Formico and Catherine Raquel.

Lastly, UA's No. 1 pair of Natalie Anselmo and Olivia Macdonald battled Stanford's Courtney Brown and Sunny Villapando in three sets, but the Cardinals closed out the duel defeating the Cats, 21-18, 16-21, 15-7.

Arizona continues championship play in the contenders bracket Friday, April 27 in Stanford, Calif. The Cats will face the Utah Utes at 8 a.m. MST.  Follow along here for team scores and bracket information updates.
