Geist Wins Pac-12 Title, Eight Cats Advance to Finals

Palo Alto, Calif. – The University of Arizona track and field program closed out day one of the Pac-12 Championships on Saturday. Jordan Geist won the Pac-12 shot put title and saw eight Wildcats advanced to the finals. The men close out day one with 17 points and the ladies tabbed 22 after the first day of competition.

Geist threw a mark of 20.06m (65-9.75) on his final throw to win the Pac-12 title. He becomes the fifth Wildcat and first freshman to ever win the conference shot put title. The freshman's first-place finish is good for 10 points towards the team score.

Alyssa Thompson and Karla Teran combined for six points on the ladies side in day one of the Championships. Competing in the long jump, Thompson earned a mark of 6.35m (21-2.75) to finish in third place. Teran cleared 1.76m (5-9.25) to earn a third-place finish.

Tatum Waggoner clocked a time of 53.08 in the 400-meter dash to earn her a spot in Sunday's final. Karolina Pahlitzsch clocked a time of 59.34 in the 400-meter hurdles to move on to tomorrow's final.

Tyrell Johnson will advance to the 100-meter dash final after running a time of 10.43. Umajesty Williams ran a time of 21.00 in the 200-meter dash and 46.92 in the 400-meter dash to advance to the finals in both events. Zakee Washington clocked a time of 47.11 in the 400-meter dash to move on to the finals.

In the 400-meter hurdles, Maksims Sincukovs clocked a time of 51.35 to finish second and advance to tomorrow's final. Collins Kibet will advance to tomorrow's 800-meter run final following a first-place finish with a time of 1:49.48. Carlos Villarreal will compete in tomorrow's 1500-meter dash final after clocking a time of 3:47.24 in the prelim.

The Cats will compete in the fnal day of the Pac-12 Championships tomorrow, May 13th with competition beginning at 10:30 a.m.
