Six Wildcats Selected to All-Pac-12 Baseball Squads

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Arizona Wildcats placed three players on the All-Pac-12 team and three others on the honorable mention squad, the league announced Thursday.
First baseman Alfonso Rivas, catcher Cesar Salazar and third baseman Nick Quintana were all named to the 32-man All-Pac-12 team. Pitcher Cody Deason, outfielder Cal Stevenson and middle infielder Cameron Cannon were named honorable mention.
Rivas and Salazar were selected to the squad for the second-straight year, while Stevenson and Deason picked up honorable mention honors for the second-straight year.
Rivas led the Wildcats in hitting at .342 this season, starting all 56 games for the Wildcats. He hit a career-high 15 doubles to go with three triples, seven home runs and 52 RBI. He finished ninth in the Pac-12 in RBI. The junior from San Diego led the Wildcats with 21 multiple-hit games and 13 multiple-RBI contests.
Salazar, a two-time honoree like Rivas, shined offensively and defensively for the Wildcats this season. The junior hit .339 with 11 doubles, four home runs and 42 RBI. He led the team with an on-base percentage of .432, which ranked 11th in the Pac-12. He threw out 16 of 28 potential base stealers behind the plate, and posted a fielding percentage of .991.
Quintana earned his first All-Pac-12 honors as a sophomore and showed off his power throughout the season. Quintana hit .313 with 17 doubles, 14 home runs and 55 RBI. He led the team with a .592 slugging percentage. Quintana ranked tied for fifth in the league with his 14 home runs, finished tied for seventh in doubles, eighth in runs scored and tied for sixth in RBI.
Deason, Arizona's Friday night starter all season, went 6-5 with a 2.87 ERA in 14 starts. He threw one complete game. In 91 innings, Deason struck out 84, walked 37 and held opposing batters to a .216 batting average against. Deason ranked 10th in the conference in ERA and fifth in strikeouts. He was also tied for fifth in innings pitched and seventh in opposing batting average.
Stevenson batted .293 in 48 games for the Wildcats. He led the team with six triples, which was the third-best mark in the Pac-12. He drove in 26, scored 47 runs and posted an on-base percentage of .416. Stevenson struck out just 16 times in 174 at-bats.
Cannon joined Rivas and Quintana as the only players to start all 56 games for the Wildcats this season. The sophomore from Glendale hit .321 with 59 runs scored, 21 doubles, eight home runs and 50 RBI. He finished tied for first in the league with his 59 runs scored and tied for second with the 21 doubles. He also finished eighth in the league with 37 walks.
The Wildcats went 34-22 this season, wrapping up play last weekend at Oregon.
