Quintana, Salazar Earn ABCA West All-Region Honors

TUCSON, Ariz. – Sophomore third baseman Nick Quintana was named to the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division 1 West All-Region First-Team on Wednesday morning.
Additionally, junior catcher Cesar Salazar was named to the West All-Region Second-Team.
The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association, and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Division I All-America Committee. By being named to the First-Team, Quintana is automatically nominated for the ABCA/Rawlings All-American team, which will be announced June 16.
Quintana, one of five sophomores to make the West All-Region First-Team, hit .313 for the Wildcats this past season with 17 doubles, 14 home runs, 55 RBI and a .592 slugging percentage. The sophomore from Las Vegas led Arizona in home runs, RBI and slugging percentage. He was named All-Pac-12 First-Team earlier this month.
Quintana was one of three Wildcats to start and play in all 56 games this season for Arizona. Quintana's 14 home runs were the most by an Arizona underclassman since Bobby Dalbec hit 15 in 2015.
Salazar, one of the premier defensive catchers in the country, threw out 16 of 28 potential base stealers for the Wildcats this season. He also shined offensively, hitting .339 with four home runs, 11 doubles and 42 RBI. He led Arizona with a .432 on-base percentage. Salazar started 53 games for the Wildcats. He was selected in the seventh round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Houston Astros.
The Wildcats had two players, JJ Matijevic and Jared Oliva, selected to the West All-Region First-Team last year. Alfonso Rivas was a second-team selection in 2017.
