Tate Named to Maxwell and O'Brien Award Watch Lists

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona quarterback Khalil Tate has been named to a pair of prestigious watch lists this week. Monday morning, it was announced Tate was included on the 2018 Maxwell Award Watch List.
 
The Maxwell Award is presented annually to College Football's Player of the Year by the Maxwell Football Club. Tate was a semifinalist for the award last year as a sophomore and is one of six returning semifinalists to make the 84-man 2018 Watch List.

Tuesday, Tate was named to the Davey O'Brien Award Watch List. The Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award is presented annually to the nation's best college quarterback. Arizona's quarterback was also a semifinalist for the O'Brien Award last season and is one of 12 juniors on this year's watch list. 
 
In 2017, Tate played in 11 games for the Wildcats. He threw for 1,591 yards and 14 touchdowns, while completing 62 percent of his passes. Tate also rushed for 1,411 yards and 12 touchdowns, while rushing for 9.2 yards per carry. He averaged 128.3 rushing yards per game.
 
The Inglewood, California native earned four straight Pac-12 Offensive Player of the week honors last year for the first time in league history. He was a Maxwell Award National Player of the Week after he rushed for 327 yards against Colorado, establishing a new FBS rushing record for a quarterback. Tate rushed for more than 200 yards in a game three times, becoming the first player in program history to have three 200-yard rushing games in the same season.
 
In his final game of 2017, Tate threw for 302 yards and five touchdowns against Purdue in the Foster Farms Bowl. The 302 yards established a new career-high for the quarterback.
 
The Maxwell Award will announce semifinalists on Oct. 29, while finalists will be announced on Nov. 19. The winner will be announced on Dec. 6 as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show. Sixteen semifinalists for the Davey O'Brien Award will be announced on Nov. 6. The three finalists will be announced on Nov. 19, along with the Maxwell Award.
