Soccer Arizona Athletics - Nicole Mitchell

Extra Time: Jada Talley

Jada Talley has started this season making a big impact on the field for the Wildcats. The sophomore forward has scored four goals this season, helping Arizona win their last four matches. Talley ranks third in the Pac-12 with her four goals and is also tied with her teammate, Jill Aguilera, for first first place in shots in the with 19.

What do you think has helped you improve the most since last season?

"I think more play time and starting in the spring. Tony has worked with me, showing me different runs that I need to be making, and that has made me more dangerous. I just think just getting more touches on the ball in gamelike scenarios has helped a lot."

How has it been with the addition of the new freshmen?

"It has helped. I feel like a lot of them are helping us in practice and in games. Hallie (Pearson) is obviously a starter for us, but they all contribute. It is not like practice players or people that just come on the team and are just another number. I think everybody contributes."

How do you prepare during game week?

"I think game week you have to just get your head out of everything that is not soccer related. Getting stuff done early so I can solely focus on soccer, and just making sure my mind is right for that game I am about to play. I do not focus on anything besides the game."

How does it feel when you see your name on the Pac-12 leaders list?

"I think it is cool having that little bit of confidence behind you, knowing that there are stats and there is something behind your name to back you up. I did not really do much last year in my opinion to put myself on the map. But I feel like this year is going great for me."

How hard was it to come out of the Houston Baptist game before being able to score a third goal?

"I do not want to say I am just satisfied with two, but it will give me another opportunity to get a hat trick. I thought it was cool that other people got in. Michaela [Rentner] got her first goal and I thought that was great. Brooke [Wilson] also got her first goal and that was cool... I did not get it, but it is okay, I will get it next weekend."

What are your goals for the season?

"I want to make first team All-Pac-12. If that does not happen, second at least. I think that is my major goal. I want to get offensive player of the week at least once and I want to be top five in goals scored. I am third right now, but it is a little early, so I want to keep working towards keeping myself in the top five. Just keep working every game, get a goal every game, at least one or two."

Talley and the Wildcats are back home for two matches this weekend at Mulcahy Stadium, starting with Boise State on Friday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. MST followed by Baylor on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 2 p.m. MST.
