TUCSON -- Fresh off two strong performances to open the fall season, the Arizona Men's Golf team will head north for its third tournament to compete in the Oregon State Invitational, which runs Monday and Tuesday. The Oregon State Beavers will be hosting the event, which will take place at the Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis.
The lineup for the Wildcats this tournament includes seniors David Laskin, Briggs Duce and Brad Reeves, junior Trevor Werbylo and freshman Aidric Chan. Junior Drake Mendenhall will play as an individual.
"We have another opportunity this week," said head coach Jim Anderson. "Our team has enjoyed time to regroup at home and we feel very confident top to bottom. We have talked about being prepared for a colder climate and we expect the ball will generally fly much shorter in Oregon. Our goal is to see the course and play aggressive. We generally make a lot of birdies and we know how to capitalize on scoring opportunities."
In Arizona's most recent tournament, the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate in Albuquerque, Werbylo had a total of 13 birdies during his second and third rounds to help guide Arizona to a third-place finish. Duce sunk a total of 10 birdies during the tournament.
Laskin and Reeves, both constants in the Arizona lineup, scored seven birdies between them in the last 18 holes they played in Albuquerque. Mendenhall enters the tournament with an average of 74.40 and a low 18 score of 70.
This will be the second tournament of the year for Chan, who in his debut as a Wildcat placed highest on the leaderboard at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate, tying for third place at 9-under par. The Cats took second as a team at the Maui Jim, paced by Chan's strong performance.
The Wildcats will be facing a field of 14 other teams: Air Force, Boise State, California Baptist, CSU-Fullerton, Gonzaga, Idaho, Oregon, Oregon State, Pacific, San Francisco, Seattle, Utah, Washington State and Oregon State as "B" Team.
