Wildcats Tie for 3rd at Oregon State Invitational

CORVALLIS-- The Arizona Wildcats finished their third tournament of the fall season tied for third place on Tuesday in Corvallis at the Trysting Tree Golf Club. The Wildcats tied with Utah at +13. They finished behind San Francisco, who finished at one-over par, and Oregon State, who finished in first at -18.

The Wildcats have finished in the top three of each of their three tournaments this fall. They previously placed in third at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate and second in the Maui Jim Intercollegiate.

Senior Briggs Duce finished highest on the leaderboard for the Wildcats this tournament, placing in seventh with a score of two-under par. Duce sunk a total of 12 birdies and an eagle over the course of the tournament. The senior finished in the top ten for the second time this season and second time in his career.

Senior David Laskin finished the tournament with 13 birdies, and he finished tied for ninth place with an even par score. Junior Trevor Werbylo tied with Laskin for ninth place. Werbylo finished the tournament with nine birdies. It was the seventh top 10 of Laskin's career and 10th of Werbylo's.

Junior Drake Mendenhall, playing as an individual, scored 12 birdies during the tournament and an eagle in the third round on the fifth hole. Mendenhall finished the tournament tied for 23th place with a score of five over par.

Senior Brad Reeves finished the tournament with three birdies and a low score of 76 in the second round. Freshman Aidric Chan sunk six birdies in the tournament, he also scored a low of 76 in his second round of play.

"We really did not have our best stuff this week," said head coach Jim Anderson. "Three guys performed pretty well, but even they probably feel as though they left some out there. Briggs has developed into a very reliable and outstanding player. He did an amazing job sticking to his game plan and hitting the ball in the right spots. David and Trevor are both set up to carry us every week and we will only be as good as our top players each week. Drake did a great job traveling and we believe he can be a key contributor too."

Anderson continued: "We had some places were we should have putt better and we had stretches where we were short siding approach shots. It was good to get to this part of the country because we will need to be able to perform on this type of golf course in the future. Our team can learn from this outing and we will be prepared to finish our fall season strong in Monterey, California in a couple weeks."

The final tournament of the Wildcats fall season is the St. Mary's Invitational in Pebble Beach, California. It will be played Nov. 4-6. Keep up with the Wildcats on social media, on Twitter, @arizonamgolf, and Instagram, @arizonagolf.
