WEEKLY NOTES

ARIZONA RETURNS HOME TO CLOSE OUT FIRST HALF OF PAC-12 PLAY
  • After two weeks on the road, Arizona (10-7, 1-7 Pac-12) is back in McKale this weekend to wrap up the first half of Pac-12 play. The Wildcats will face Oregon State (8-11, 2-6 Pac-12) and Oregon (6-11, 2-6 Pac-12).
  • Arizona will look to bounce back after its 0-4 roadtrip,  which included four matches vs. ranked teams; the Wildcats have played six ranked teams in their last seven games.
  • The Wildcats will face the Beavers at 7 p.m. on Friday before facing the Ducks on Sunday at noon.
  • What to Watch for: Arizona has historically enjoyed success over Oregon State (49-17 all-time) and Oregon (47-21 all-time), but both series have been even in recent years; in the last eight meetings, Arizona is .500 against both teams ... Seven of Arizona's first eight Pac-12 games this season have come against seven of the eight top teams in the conference; this weekend, UA faces two teams tied for ninth in the league and represents a chance for the Cats to begin an ascension up the Pac-12 standings ... The Wildcats return home this week, where they are 6-2 this season, compared to just a 2-6 record in away matches.
  • Promotions: Friday vs. Oregon State: Daddy-Daughter Night (Ticket and Concession Voucher) and Pre-Meet Chalk Talk ... Sunday vs. Oregon: Faculty/Staff Appreciation and Surve Sundays.
  • Live Coverage: Both matches will be televised live on the Pac-12 Networks and streamed on pac-12.com/live ... Live stats for both matches are available at arizonastats.com ... Follow this weekend's action and all season long on Twitter (@ArizonaVBall).

QUICK HITS
  • Devyn Cross leads the Pac-12 and is second nationally in hitting percentage (.463). Cross is trying to become the first Wildcat since Marissa DaLee in 2000 (.437, the Arizona single-season record) to lead the NCAA in hitting percentage.
  • At California (10/13), Julia Patterson became the seventh player in Arizona history to record 3,000 career assists, moving into seventh place in Arizona history. She enters this week with 3,059 career assists, 458 shy of sixth in UA history.
  • For the second straight season, the Wildcats are dealing with a handful of concussions. Three of UA's top six hitters -- Shardonee Hayes, Whittnee Nihipali and Elizabeth Shelton -- missed last week with concussions. In their absence, Arizona's libero, freshman Kamaile Hiapo, played on the outside during Arizona's matches at Washington State and Washington. Hiapo averaged 1.14 kills and 3.43 digs per set on the weekend.
  • Arizona senior Emi Pua'a has played the last six games at libero after Hiapo was injured prior to being called into action at outside hitter. Pua'a has at least 12 digs in five of her last six matches, including a career-high 29 digs vs. Washington, tied for 11th most overall in a match in Arizona history and tied for sixth in a four-set match in UA history.
  • The Wildcats are 11-0 when posting a better hitting percentage than their opponents and 0-9 when they are outhit by their opponent. UA is 7-0 when hitting .300 or better and 9-1 when holding its opponents to .200 or worse.
  • Head coach Dave Rubio is in his 28th season as the Wildcats' head coach. Last season, Rubio became the second coach in Pac-12 history to surpass 500 victories as a league coach and currently has a career record of 523-330 (.615) at Arizona and ranks 15th among all active coaches in the NCAA with 645 career wins, including his 122 wins at Cal State Bakersfield.
OREGON STATE BEAVERS (8-11, 2-6 Pac-12)
  • Team Notes: Oregon State enters the week on a six-match losing streak after falling to USC (3-1) and UCLA (3-2) last week in Corvallis ... While the offense has struggled this year, the Beavers' defense is in the top half of the Pac-12 in both digs/set (14.53) and blocks.set (2.48) ... OSU is led by Madie Goings, who is averaging 2.90 kills/set and 1.95 digs/set.
  • Head Coach: Mark Barnard (4th season; 52-63)
  • Series History: Arizona 49, Oregon State 17
    2018 (2-0) || Corvallis: #23 Arizona 3, Oregon State 0; Tucson: #24 Arizona 3, Oregon State 0
#10 WASHINGTON HUSKIES (13-3, 4-2 Pac-12)
  • Team Notes: The Ducks have struggled to a 6-11 record, but have played one of the toughest schedules in the nation; Oregon has played eight matches vs. ranked opponents, including four top-10 teams ... Oregon split last week, sweeping UCLA before being swept by USC in Eugene ... Brooke Nunerville leads the team in kills/set (3.23), digs/set (3.42) and aces/set (1.51).
  • Head Coach: Matt Ulmer (3rd season; 47-34)
  • Series History: Washington 43, Arizona 252018 (1-1) || Eugene: #24 Arizona 3, #12 Oregon 1; Tucson: #16 Oregon 3, #23 Arizona 1
