Arizona Heads to Hawai'i for John Burns Intercollegiate

TUCSON, Ariz.- The Men's Golf program is headed to Lihu'e, Hawai'i to compete in the 43rd installment of the John Burns Intercollegiate. The three-day event will begin Thursday, Jan. 21st, at the Wailua Golf Course with an 8 a.m HST shotgun start.
"Hawaii is a great trip every year," commented head coach Jim Anderson. "Everyone is excited to make the trip our team has done a great job balancing this energy with finding the right competitive mindset. We are familiar with the golf course as each member of the travel squad has played Wailua Golf Course multiple times. The team is looking forward to competing again after a short break and we have enjoyed a variety of weather conditions to prepare at home. We have played Tucson courses that present similar challenges with chipping and course layout."
Arizona will be competing among 19 teams for the tournament title, including top ranked Duke University (2), Arizona State (11), Texas A&M (20), and BYU (24). Rounding out the field are: Washington State, University of New Mexico, University of Northern Colorado, Long Beach State, UNLV, University of North Carolina, St. Mary's College, University of Virginia, UTEP, UCSB, GCU, Fresno State University, UC Irvine, CSU, and host school, University of Hawaii, Manoa.
Starting for the Cats will be sophomore Trevor Werbylo, juniors David Laskin and Brad Reeves, senior Ethan Marcus, and junior Briggs Duce. All five golfers were part of the winning Arizona Intercollegiate lineup, where Arizona matched a program record, going 37-under for a score of 815. Each of the five also placed in the top 25. Sophomore Tianlang "Langly" Guan will be competing as an individual.
Arizona has won the tournament three times (1993, 2003, 2004) and is looking for another tournament win, as well as continued success throughout the spring.
