TUCSON, Ariz. – Gymnastics' Jenny Leung, Football's Donovan Laie, Women's Track and Field's Amarissa Hawker, and Men's Basketball's Alex Barcello have been honored as the student-athletes of the month for February.
These students have been honored for their commitment to earning their undergraduate degree, the ability to maximize their academic potential, and their dedication to academic improvement and growth.
These students have been chosen by the C.A.T.S Academic staff.
Leung is a rising junior from Houston, Texas double majoring in Management Informations Systems and Operations Management. Currently in the midst of her season, Leung has earned a season high of 9.750 on vault against Arkansas and a season high of 9.800 on beam at Utah.
"Jenny is double majoring in MIS and Operations in Eller and just landed a Nike internship for the summer. She works hard in the gym and in the classroom and always strives to be the best," academic counselor Sarah Barber said.
Laie is from Oceanside, California working towards a degree in Literacy, Learning, and Leadership. Before his first season with Arizona, Laie was recognized as a Four-time All-Conference and All-City selection athlete as well as a Three-year All-CIF honoree on his high school football team.
"Donovan had a great summer and first semester at the University of Arizona. He is always on top of it and organized," learning specialist Michelle Galambos said. "He turns everything in and is consistently done early each week, and has been great to work with."
Hawker, a senior from Herriman, Utah, looks to graduate with a degree in Nutritional Sciences this Spring. During her time with Arizona, Hawker has shot her best indoor Shot Put at 48 ft - 4.75 in and outdoor Discus Throw at 132 ft - 3 in. Â

"Amarissa Hawker is Nutritional Sciences major from Herriman, Utah. She is someone who works hard in and out of the classroom, while consistently demonstrating her tremendous time management skills," academic counselor Corey Talley said.
Barcello is from Chandler, Arizona working towards a degree in Economy and Industry. In his first game as a Wildcat, Barcello launched into his collegiate career with a three-game run of 7.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game while shooting 58.3 percent from the field.
"Alex is an Economy and Industry major from Chandler, AZ. Alex is a strong student who has settled in nicely to his new major," academic counselor Kiaira Ladd said. "He is currently on track to have his best semester yet at Arizona, even during a busy basketball season. Alex is a dedicated student who works hard both on and off the court."
