TUCSON, Ariz.-- The Arizona Wildcats split two matches during their first day hosting the Pac-12 South Beach Volleyball Invitational. The No. 14 Wildcats dropped their first match to No. 2 USC (5-0) before besting Oregon (4-1) later in the day. 

"We played two obviously high caliber programs within the conference, both at very different stages of their development," said head coach Steve Walker. "USC is a two-time national champion. They reached the national semi-finals last year, and I thought we competed very well. It's a program that is way down the road with the things that they are doing, and Oregon is an 'up-and-comer.' They've added a full time head coach, a full time staff member, and it's obvious that the conference continues to get better at this sport. The schools are allocating resources to beach volleyball, and there is good competition up and down. I am proud of our efforts. We continue to improve in the areas that we need to, and I look forward to getting back out there and competing with another great conference foe."

The Wildcats will look to keep their momentum tomorrow as they are slated to take on No. 12 Stanford. The last time Arizona met the Cardinal was during the 2018 Pac-12 Beach Volleyball Championships, a match that Arizona lost 1-4.
