TUCSON, Ariz. –Â
Aari McDonald and
Cate Reese represented the Arizona Wildcats on the All-Conference Awards on Tuesday, as McDonald was named to the All-Pac-12 and All-Defensive Teams while Reese was named to the All-Freshman Team, the Pac-12 announced on Tuesday.
Â
McDonald, the nation's third-leading scorer who also leads the Pac-12 in points per game and steals per game, finished the regular season averaging 24.9 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.7 steals per game. She joins Kelsey Plum, Sabrina Ionescu and Candice Wiggins as the only four players in conference history to have 700 points and 120 assists in one season.
Â
The sophomore is Arizona's single-season scoring record holder and is currently 12th on the Pac-12's single-season scoring list. Only three sophomores in Pac-12 history have scored more points in one season (Ionescu, Plum and Wiggins) and she needs just 28 more points to break the Pac-12 sophomore record.
Â
Arizona will have a member on the All-Freshman team for the second year in a row for the first time since the 2011 and 2012 seasons when Erica Barnes and Aley Rhode were honored. Reese, who is the Pac-12's leading rebounder and second-leading scorer among freshmen, finished the regular season averaging 11.1 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.
Â
The Cypress, Texas native has five double-doubles this season and was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week three times this year. Her 197 total rebounds is the fifth-most among freshmen in Arizona history.
Â
McDonald and Reese will be on the floor in the first round of the Pac-12 Tournament on Thursday, Mar. 7 against USC at 3 p.m. MST in the MGM Grand Garden Arena
