TUCSON, Ariz. – Sunday night saw the conclusion of the Pac-12 Track & Field Championships at Roy P. Drachman Stadium. Highlighting day two of the action were
Karla Teran who won a Pac-12 Championship and
James Smith who set an Arizona School Record in the 400-meter hurdles.
The men closed out the competition in third place with a score of 94 points. This is their highest finish since 2014 and most points scored in the Pac-12 Championships since 2012. The ladies closed out Pac-12 Championships in seventh with a score of 57.5.
Pac-12 Champion
Junior
Karla Teran won the ladies high jump championship with a clearance of 1.88m (6-2). Her mark was good for a new PR, and ties her for the No. 2 mark on the NCAA list. The lady high jumpers closed out the completion amassing 18.5 points towards the team score. Freshman
Alexa Porpaczy finished third in her first Pac-12 Championships with a clearance of 1.71m (5-7.25).
Diana Ramos finished in a tie for sixth overall.
The Knochness Monster
Sophomore
Jordan Geist closed out the Pac-12 Championships amassing 22 points towards the team towards the team score for a second year in a row. In last year's meet, he tallied 22 points across three events. On day two of the competition, he finished third in the discus throw with a toss of 56.98m (186-11) to score six points.
Harvey's Hurdlers Had a Night
Freshman
James Smith rewrote the Arizona record books in the 400-meter hurdle final on Sunday night. He stopped the clock in 49.93 to set an Arizona School & Freshman Record in the event. He finished third overall. Sophomore
Maksims Sincukovs took fifth with a time of 50.87. On the ladies side, senior
Karolina Pahlitzsch clocked a time of 57.10 to finish third and set a new PR. Her mark is good for the No. 5 mark in the Arizona Record Book. Sophomore
Shannon Meisberger followed in fifth with a time of 57.95 to set a new PR.
Relays Have Strong Showing
The men's 4x400-meter relay team of
Zakee Washington, Smith, Sincukovs and
Umajesty Williams clocked a time of 3:05.98 to finish second. Their season-best time is good for the No. 5 mark on the Arizona All-Time List. The ladies 4x400-meter relay team of Meisberger,
Tatum Waggoner,
Diana Gajda and Pahlitzsch took third in 3:32.13. The men's 4x100-meter relay team of
Trevor Volpe, Washington,
PJ Austin and Williams took second in 39.56.
Up next, the Cats will host the Tucson Elite Classic on May 16th & 18th at Roy P. Drachman Stadium.
