Nick Quintana Tabbed as Pac-12 Player of the Week

TUCSON, Ariz. – After a standout stretch at the plate Arizona Wildcats infielder Nick Quintana has been named Pac-12 Player of the Week, the conference announced today.

Across four games, Quintana posted a .476 batting average (10-for-21) with nine runs scored, four doubles, one home run, 11 RBI, and more walks (3) than strikeouts (2). Additionally, he registered an on-base percentage of .520 and a .810 slugging percentage as the Wildcats went 3-1 including a weekend sweep of the Oregon Ducks at Hi Corbett Field.

Quintana is the first Wildcat to win a Pac-12 weekly honor this season, and the first since Cody Deason was selected as Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week in 2018. He is the first Arizona position player to be tabbed as the Pac-12 Player of the Week since Cal Stevenson earned the recognition in May 2017.

His explosive week began on Tuesday in a midweek matchup against New Mexico State in which he went 3-for-5 with three runs scored, one RBI, and a walk.

Continuing on to the weekend, Quintana's bat really came alive during the Wildcats three-game sweep of the Ducks. The Cats junior third baseman posted a 2-for-5 outing in the Friday night series opener that included two runs scored, a pair of doubles, and two RBI to help power Arizona to a 17-6 come-from-behind victory.

Quintana again delivered multiple hits in the Cats extra-innings win over the Ducks on Saturday night, going 2-for-5 with a run scored, a clutch late-inning home run, three RBI, and a walk. His three-run homer came in the bottom of the seventh inning and pulled Arizona even with Oregon at 5-5 in a second straight comeback win.

The Las Vegas native's biggest performance for the Cats came on Saturday in a 28-7 drubbing of the Ducks. Quintana led the team with five RBI on a 3-for-6 afternoon at the plate. He also tacked on three runs scored, a pair of doubles, and a walk.

In his third season with the Cats, Quintana is hitting a career-best .322, leads the team with 11 home runs, and paces the Pac-12 Conference with 57 RBI.

Quintana and the Wildcats square off against the Arizona State Sun Devils this Tuesday night at Hi Corbett Field with a first pitch set for 6:00 p.m. MST. The game will be televised on Pac-12 Network, and tickets are available at ArizonaWildcats.com/BSB.
