TUCSON, Ariz. – Former Arizona Wildcat Nate Lashley claimed his first career PGA Tour victory Sunday afternoon, winning the Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit. Lashley shot 25-under for the tournament, winning by six strokes over Doc Redman at Detroit Golf Club.
Lashley is the ninth former Wildcat to win on the PGA Tour and first since Jim Furyk won the 2015 RBC Heritage.
Lashley, who played at Arizona from 2002 to 2005, shot a final round 70 to finish off the tournament win. Lashley led wire-to-wire, shooting 63s on Thursday and Saturday and 67 on Friday. It's his fifth career professional victory. He earned three wins on the Latin America Tour in 2016 and one on the Web.com Tour in 2017.
An alternate who earned an invitation into the field on Wednesday, Lashley is now in an accomplished group, joining the eight other former Wildcats to win on the PGA Tour. He joins Don Pooley, Dan Pohl, Robert Gamez, Larry Silveira, Mike Springer, Jim Furyk, Rory Sabbatini and Ted Purdy.
During his Arizona career, Lashley had a career scoring average of 73.70 over 128 rounds. He was a second-team All-Pac-10 selection in 2005, and also earned honorable mention GCAA All-America honors.
With the win, Lashley qualified for the British Open to be held later this month at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland. He is also now qualified for the 2020 Master's, PGA Championship and Players Championship.
