Austin, Texas – The NCAA Championships opened competition on Wednesday June 5th in Austin, Texas. Highlighting the opening day of the competition was
James Smith, who set an Arizona School Record, and
Jordan Geist who was tabbed as a First-Team All-American.
Mr. Smith
Freshman
James Smith clocked a time of 49.67 in the 400-meter hurdles to qualify on time for the final. His time was good for a new PR for the second race in a row, and betters his Arizona School and Freshman Records. Smith will hear the gun go off at 6:57 p.m. MST on Friday night.
Make it Four
Jordan Geist wrapped up the NCAA Championships with a third-place finish in the shot put. The sophomore earned First-Team All-American status with a toss of 20. 31m (66-7.75). Geist is now a four-time First-Team All-American in the event.
Moving On
Senior
Bailey Roth wrapped up the opening day of the NCAA Championships with a fifth-place finish in his 3K steeplechase heat. He clocked a time of 8:46.28 to finish fifth overall. Roth will toe the line on Friday at 5:54 p.m. MST.
The Cats will resume the NCAA Championships tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. MST with
Tatum Waggoner competing in the 400-meter dash.
