TUCSON, Ariz. --Â The Arizona Wildcats (2-0) stayed perfect on the season with a 15-0 victory over the Albany Great Danes (0-2) on Saturday night at Hi Corbett Field.
Cats starting pitcher
Quinn Flanagan and right-handed reliever
Wesley Scott combined to hold Albany scoreless while striking out a combined 13 batters and allowing just two hits. It was Arizona's first shutout win since blanking Utah, 8-0, on March 16 of last season - that game was also started on the mound by Flanagan.
Arizona pitchers have now struck out 14 and 13 batters in their two games this year, both of which top the 2019 staff's single-game high of 12 strikeouts.
The offense picked up right where they left off in the season opener, belting 13 hits - seven of which went for extra bases - drawing 11 walks, and scoring double-digit runs. Sophomores
Branden Boissiere and
Dayton Dooney both picked up their first home runs of the season.
