SAN DIEGO – The Arizona Wildcats men's golf program finished play at the 2020 Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic on Tuesday. The Wildcats finished the tournament at +20 and in 15
th place. The Cats shot two-over in their final round at San Diego Country Club.
Tennessee, at -8, won the team championship.
The Wildcats were led by junior
Trevor Werbylo, who finished tied for 28
th at +2. Werbylo shot a final-round 69 on Tuesday. He started his round with back-to-back birdies on 12 and 13, before collecting an eagle on the par-five 14
th hole. He teed off on 12.
Werbylo also collected birdies at No. 4 and No. 8. For the tournament, Werbylo had two rounds under par and overcame a 78 in the second round Monday afternoon. Senior
Briggs Duce finished tied for 44
th at +4. He shot a one-under 71 in the final round Tuesday and collected four birdies on his card, including three on the back nine.
Fellow senior
David Laskin finished tied for 65
th at +8 after a final-round 75.
Brad Reeves, also a senior, finished tied for 72
nd at +10 after a 77 on Tuesday, while freshman
Aidric Chan fired a 75 on Tuesday and finished +12 for the tournament and tied for 80
th.
The Wildcats also had three players –
Chase Sienkiewicz,
Hayden Sayre and
Drake Mendenhall – compete in the 2020 Coronado Individual at nearby Coronado Golf Course. Sienkiewicz had a strong tournament, finishing tied for third at -3 after a final round 70 on Tuesday. He was one shot off the win. Mendenhall finished 14
th at +2, while Sayre finished tied for 20
th at +7.
Arizona is next in action March 16 back in Tucson at the NIT at Omni Tucson National.
