Where Are They Now: Kim Stubbe

Playing from 2010-2014 and coaching from 2014-2015, Arizona tennis alum Kim Stubbe is now a master tennis professional at John McEnroe Tennis Academy in Long Island, N.Y. ArizonaWildcats.com sat down with Stubbe to ask how her experience at Arizona got her to where she is now.

Stubbe loves her job as a tennis coach because it allows her to have a great variety of duties including coaching players from all ages.

"It differs between coaching adults all the way to little superstars who first are introduced to tennis between the ages of 3-9 year-olds," Stubbe said. "I also have the opportunity to work with our high performance junior players. Some of these talented athletes are looking to take a similar athletic path that I took by competing at the collegiate level while others will try to pursue a career on the pro-circuit."

Stubbe feels lucky to be able to share her diverse coaching skills because it has allowed her to share her passion of tennis to all levels and ages.

Transitioning out of collegiate athletics is not easy for many, especially Stubbe. She struggled with the feeling of being lost, moving to a different state and change in general. Thanks to Arizona Athletics, Stubbe got the guidance she needed. She attended career fairs and panels that discussed the transition which allowed her to feel more open about what she wanted to pursue, which was the game of tennis.

"It took me a solid year to feel completely comfortable with the change, but as an athlete and being part of the Women's Tennis Team, I developed so many skills and life lessons that helped me overcome adversity and prepared me for anything coming my way," Stubbe said.

During Stubbe's fifth year, she had the opportunity to be the volunteer assistant coach for the women's tennis team and through that, she gained even more skills including communication, problem-solving and overall becoming a well-rounded tennis professional.

Stubbe has had the honor of working alongside John McEnroe at his tennis academy.

"It is always exciting to work for a tennis legend as extraordinary as John McEnroe," Stubbe said. "A role model for many and a total honor to be a part of his academy and help develop tennis stars."

Stubbe's goal is to always share her love and passion for the game of tennis with all of her students and help prepare junior players for an unforgettable college experience.

"I am so proud to be an alum of the University of Arizona and I will represent Arizona for life," Stubbe said. "My time spent in Tucson was the most meaningful and precious chapter of my life!"

Stubbe is one of the proudest Wildcats fans, "I always Bear Down no matter what."
