Where Are They Now: Shayne Austin Newman

Arizona women's tennis is proud to feature alum Shayne Austin Newman who played from 2012-2016. She is married to her college sweetheart, Kevin Newman who happens to be an Arizona baseball alum and plays for the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Newmans live in Bradenton, Fla., Scottsdale, Ariz. and Pittsburgh, Pa., depending on where the season brings them.

Newman and her husband currently own an investment company where they buy, design, and rent homes around the country.

"We currently have four properties, in Pittsburgh, Bradenton and Scottsdale and adding a fifth in Nashville, that is currently being built," Newman said. "We take part in managing, furnishing, and designing our properties which definitely keeps us extremely busy during the baseball season."

Day to day responsibilities are always changing, but Newman loves ending her day with a baseball game.

"I handle current and future renters with any needs that they may have, designing furnishing plans, and preparing legal and banking documentation for each of our properties," she said. "Staying in shape is a priority for me, so I do some level of fitness every day and I usually end my day with a baseball game, watching my husband crush it."

During the offseason Newman keeps busy by staying actively involved in teaching tennis.

"I am a teaching pro for the Seth Korey Tennis Academy, where I work with kids of all ages doing clinics and giving lessons," Newman said. "We also spend a lot of time playing and loving on our three-year-old golden retriever."

Transitioning out of college was difficult at times, but being an Arizona Wildcat alum helped Newman.

"Arizona provided me with guidance on how to deal with life after being a college-athlete," Newman said. "Just like anyone, I definitely struggled but I learned tools on how to shift my focus and work ethic to being the best wife and co-owner of our company as I possibly could be."

Newman is forever grateful for her experience at Arizona.

"Attending the University of Arizona was one of the best decisions of my life," she said. "I enjoyed the four years I spent there, and truly learned what it meant to "Bear Down." I will always be a Wildcat and I'm very lucky to have met my husband and some of my best friends during my time as a student athlete."
