Waggoner, Gettings Named Tom Hansen Conference Medal Winners

SAN FRANCISCO – The Pac-12 Conference announced the annual Tom Hansen Conference Medal recipients on Thursday, and Stone Gettings (men's basketball) and Tatum Waggoner (Track and Field) were the honorees from Arizona. Waggoner is the sixth woman from the track and field program to receive the medal while Gettings is the fourth UA men's basketball player to be named.

The medal is awarded to each Pac-12 member institution's outstanding senior male and female student-athlete based on exhibition of the greatest combination of performance and achievement in scholarship, athletics and leadership.

The conference has awarded medals every year since the 1960-61 academic year. In 2009, the Pac-12 renamed the award the Tom Hansen Conference Medal in honor of Hansen, who retired at the end of June 2009 after serving 26 years as Commissioner of the Pac-10.

Tatum Waggoner has been recognized as an All-American on and off the track. She began her career setting the freshman record in the 200m dash with a time of 23.70, which still stands today and also helped set the school record in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:30.67 on May 25, 2019. She finished her career as a five-time All-American while competing at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships three different seasons.

She leaves Arizona with the second-fastest 400m dash time and the 10th-fastest 200m dash time in school history.

In the classroom, Waggoner finished her career with a perfect 4.0 GPA. She was a CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2019 and was named to the 2020 Pac-12 Spring Academic Honor Roll, was Pac-12 All-Academic First Team in 2019 and Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention in 2018.

Gettings completed his master's degree in Accounting and Entrepreneurship with a perfect 4.0 GPA in the prestigious Eller School of Management at the University of Arizona. He was also named the Pac-12 Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the first in Arizona men's basketball history. Additionally, Gettings was a member of the Pac-12 Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) and was named to the Pac-12 Winter Academic Honor Roll.

In his lone season with the Wildcats after transferring to Tucson as a graduate transfer from Cornell, Gettings appeared in 27 games, but started the final 16 games of the season and averaged 6.6 points and 4.2 rebounds. He shot 48 percent from the floor for the season and 36 percent from the 3-point line.

He was also active in the Tucson community, volunteering time at Diamond's Children's Hospital and reading books at local elementary schools.
