TUCSON, Ariz. -- Arizona senior pitcher Mariah Lopez has been named the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week for the second time in her career, the conference announced on Tuesday.

Lopez receives the award after a dominant performance at 15th-ranked Florida State last weekend, tossing a three-hit shutout vs. the Seminoles on Friday night in Tallahassee. Lopez struck out nine over seven incredibly impressive innings.

The senior gave up just three singles and allowed a runner to reach scoring position just twice all game. Florida State went 0-3 with runners in scoring position in the game with two strikeouts.

With the performance, Lopez became the first Wildcat pitcher to shut out a top-15 opponent since Taylor McQuillin shut out No. 4 Oklahoma on Feb. 24, 2018.

Lopez improved to 4-0 on the season with the win and lowered her ERA to 1.24, the sixth best in the Pac-12. She is 66-4 (.943) in her five-season career, currently on pace to break the NCAA record for career winning percentage. 

The award is the second in Lopez's career and second in the last seven weeks after she was named the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week in week 4 of 2020 following a pair of wins at No. 8 Alabama. It also marks the third time in the last four weeks that a Wildcat has earned a Pac-12 weekly honor after Alyssa Palomino-Cardoza was the Pac-12 Player of the Week in week 2 and Carlie Scupin was the Pac-12 Player and Freshman of the Week in week 3.

Lopez and the seventh-ranked Wildcats (14-3) are back in action this weekend when they begin Pac-12 play at sixth-ranked Washington (20-2) in Seattle, March 19-21.
