TUCSON, Ariz. -- Arizona softball senior centerfielder
Alyssa Palomino-Cardoza has been named the Pac-12 Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday. This marks her second Pac-12 Player of the Week honor this season after she earned the distinction in week 2.
Palomino-Cardoza led the way for the Arizona offense, which scored 33 runs in a four-game sweep of Oregon State last weekend, hitting a ridiculous .727 (8-for-11), with five extra-base hits. The senior posted a pair of doubles, a triple and two home runs, good for a 1.636 slugging percentage on the weekend. Her two doubles brought her to 47 career doubles, one shy of the Arizona career top-10, while her two home runs gave her 66 career homers, moving into 12th in Pac-12 history -- she is currently sixth in Arizona history.
Over her final six at-bats of the weekend, she went 6-for-6 with five extra-base hits, including a walkoff grand slam to mercy the Beavers in game 2 on Saturday. The grand slam brought her to six RBI and 11 total bases in the game -- all in a three-inning span -- both season highs.
Her big weekend was one of many for the Wildcats, who outscored Oregon State 33-12 over a four-game sweep. Arizona hit 12 home runs and slugged .752 over the weekend.
For the season, Palomino-Cardoza is hitting .359 with five home runs and 22 RBI.
The weekly conference recognition is the fifth of the season: Palomino-Cardoza was the Pac-12 Player of the Week in week 2,
Carlie Scupin was both the Pac-12 Player and Pac-12 Freshman of the Week in week 3, and
Mariah Lopez was the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week in week 5.
