Wildcats Clinch Series Win Over ASU

PHOENIX, Ariz. — The Arizona Wildcats (18-7, 5-3) mounted three rallies to topple Arizona State (15-7, 4-4) on a final score of 7-6 on Friday night at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.

The come-from-behind win secured the series victory for Arizona, giving them back-to-back Pac-12 Conference series wins after taking two games from No. 16 Oregon last weekend at Hi Corbett.

After falling behind 3-0 early, the Cats tied the game on a solo home run from Ryan Holgate in the third and a two-run blast from Donta Williams in the fourth.

The Sun Devils capitalized on an error in the fifth to take a one-run lead but it was quickly wiped away by a wacky inside-the-park home run from Tanner O'Tremba.

Down by a pair of runs entering the eighth, the Wildcats put together one final rally to take the lead for good. Williams drove in a run on a bases-loaded ground out to cut the deficit to one, O'Tremba sprinted home on a wild pitch to tie the game, and Jacob Berry finished it off with a game-winning RBI single back up the middle to score Nik McClaughry.

The Wildcats bullpen was outstanding, covering the final 5.0 innings and allowing just two runs on five hits. Three different members of the Arizona bullpen delivered hitless relief performances to keep the Wildcats in the game.

Right-hander Preston Price finished things off with a four-out save, his third of the year.
