TUCSON, Ariz. -- Arizona freshman first baseman
Carlie Scupin has been named the Pac-12 Player of the Week for the second time this season, the conference announced on Monday.
Scupin was on fire at the plate during Arizona's four-game sweep of Utah last weekend in Tucson. In a weekend full of eye-popping statistics from a number of different Wildcats, Scupin's weekend stood alone. She hit .750 at the plate with a double, two home runs and six RBI in the four games.
In 11 plate appearances, Scupin reached base nine times, registering six hits -- half of which went for extra bases -- and drawing three walks. The freshman slashed .750/.818/1.625 for the weekend.
Scupin had at least one hit and at least one RBI in every game of the series, helping Arizona outscore Utah 35-7 over the four games.
This is Scupin's second Pac-12 Player of the Week honor this season and third weekly conference honor of her freshman season -- she was named Pac-12 Player and Freshman of the Week in week 3 of this season. Arizona has now taken home seven Pac-12 weekly honors this season:
Alyssa Palomino-Cardoza was the Pac-12 Player of the Week in weeks 2 and 8, Scupin was the Pac-12 Player and Freshman of the Week in week 3,
Mariah Lopez was the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week in week 5 and
Alyssa Denham was the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week in week 8.
For the season, Scupin is hitting .333 with five doubles, a triple, eight home runs and 30 RBI.Â
Scupin and the Wildcats (31-8, 9-5 Pac-12)Â are back in action this weekend at Hillenbrand Stadium when they host California for a four-game series this Friday-Sunday.
