Geist Scores in Two Events, Men’s 4x4 Advances

EUGENE, Ore. – The men's side opened up the NCAA Track and Field Championships on Wednesday at Hayward Field where Jordan Geist and the 4x400 relay highlighted the Wildcats' performance.

Making his third appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, Jordan Geist competed in both the hammer throw and the shot put, combining for a total of seven points. Geist placed third in the shot put, tying his highest finish at the NCAA Finals. He threw for a season-best 20.40m (66-11.25). In the hammer throw, he finished eighth with a mark of 70.53m (231-4). He earns First-Team All-America honors in both events.

Also competing in the hammer throw was school record holder Israel Oloyede who rounded out his season with a mark of 69.99m (229-7). His PR of 73.22m (240-3), set at this year's Tucson Elite Classic, is good to send him to the Olympic Trials later this month.

The men's 4x400 relay team of Umajesty Williams, Calvin Wilson, Isaac Davis and Johnnie Blockburger punched their ticket to Friday's finals with a qualifying time of 3:07.02 after placing second in their heat. The group is coming off of a school record breaking performance of 3:04.10 at the West Prelims. They will race again on Friday at 7:20 p.m.

Blockburger and Williams competed in the open 400m on Wednesday as well. Blockburger closed out his historic freshman 400m campaign in the semifinals with a time of 46.40 to finish 12th. He will compete again at the Olympic Trials after recording a qualifying and school record time of 44.71.

Williams clocked a time of 46.83 to close out his season in the 400m. At the West Prelims, he set a PR and the fifth-best time for Arizona, crossing the finish line in 45.76.

The women's side will get going tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. beginning with Shannon Meisberger in the 400m hurdles. Samantha Noennig will follow at 5:40 in the shot put. Also competing on the women's side is Skylar Sieben, who will kick off the heptathlon on Friday.
