TUCSON, Ariz. — Catcher
Tommy Splaine, making his first career start, homered in his first collegiate at-bat and starting pitcher
Garrett Irvin cruised through six innings as the Arizona Wildats (6-1) took down the Milwaukee Panthers (3-3) on a final score of 9-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Splaine, starting behind the dish to give a day off the everyday catcher
Daniel Susac who served as the Wildcats designated hitter, finished the day going 2-for-4 with two runs scored, the home run, two RBI, and one walk.
Irvin (1-0) earned his first win of the season after holding the Panthers scoreless over six innings of work. The veteran southpaw allowed just five hits, only issued one walk, and struck out three Milwaukee batters.
The Arizona offense scored once in the first and never relinquished the lead. Already ahead 5-0 through seven innings, the Wildcats put the game away with a four-run eighth highlighted by a two-run single from
Jack Grant who picked up the first pair of RBI in his career.
