TUCSON, Ariz. —
Chase Davis drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the 10th inning to send the Arizona Wildcats (8-1) to a 2-1 walk-off victory over the visiting Dixie State Trailblazers (4-4) on Tuesday night at Hi Corbett Field.
For the majority of the game, Arizona's 180-game scoring streak appeared to be in danger, with the Trailblazers holding the Wildcats off the scoreboard through the first seven frames. The Cats finally pushed across a run in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI triple from
Daniel Susac, tying the game at 1-1.
Left-handed reliever
Holden Christian (1-0) stranded a Dixie State runner in scoring position in both of the final two innings, setting up the Wildcats heroics in the 10th.Â
Shortstop
Nik McClaughry opened the bottom of the 10th with a single to left and moved to third on a double off the bat of Susac. The Trailblazers then elected to issue an intentional walk to outfielder
Tanner O'Tremba and face Davis, setting up a lefty-on-lefty matchup. Davis went behind 1-2 before working a full count and ultimately drawing the game-winning walk that improved Arizona to 8-1 on the year.
Arizona starting pitcher
Quinn Flanagan, making his first start of the year, was electric across five innings for the Wildcats. The right-hander allowed just two hits and struck out nine Trailblazers on 69 pitches. He did not factor into the decision.
