Wildcats Go 2-0 in Day One of Pac-12 South Invitational

TUCSON, Ariz. -- The No. 17 Arizona Wildcats (10-4) took down Washington (3-6) and No. 11 California (15-5) in day one of the Pac-12 South Invitational. The Cats were able to finish both teams in a 4-1 final increasing their record to 10-4 on the season. 

Against the University of Washington the Cats increased their win streak against the Huskies to 7 with a 4-1 win, bringing their program record to 9-1. Two out of three courts were able to clinch the point in two sets with Jasmine Safar and Dilara Gedikoglu finishing first with a speedy 21-17, 21-14. Senior Dana Parker remains undefeated against the Huskies after going 21-16, 21-15 with partner Abby Russell. This is Parker's sixth win against UW. Sarah Blacker/Maja Kaiser and Annie Kost/Hope Shannon were Arizona's two other point winners with the ladder falling in the first but pulling out wins in the last two. 

The Wildcats earned their sixth program win over the Cal Golden Bears in a 4-1 finish. The Cats first point came by forfeit as a Cal player was injured on court one after Alex Parkhurst and Alana Rennie won the first set 21-17. Sarah Blacker and Maja Kaiser finished shortly  behind them in a quick two set upset of 21-14, 21-17. Gedokiglu/Safar and Shannon/Kost both fell in set one but were able to come back in the last two to win the match for Arizona.

The Wildcats will be back at Bear Down Beach tomorrow, March 27 for day two of the Pac-12 South Invitational. They will take on UCLA at 12:30 p.m. MST and Arizona State at 4:15 p.m. MST.
