PHOENIX, Ariz. — The Arizona Wildcats (18-7) rallied for a 5-3 road win over the Grand Canyon Antelopes (16-10) on Tuesday night at Brazell Field.
Facing a zero in the hits column and a 1-0 deficit entering the sixth inning, the Wildcats again found themselves needing a comeback push. Center fielder
Mac Bingham swatted a one-out solo home run to left to break up the no-hitter and the shutout; two batters later catcher
Daniel Susac powered a solo homer over the wall in straightaway center to give Arizona the lead.
Arizona plated one in the seventh and two in the eighth to push their lead out to 5-1. Grand Canyon rallied for a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth but couldn't scrape together any more offense after Wildcat southpaw
Holden Christian entered to slam the door.
Starting pitcher
Chandler Murphy, making just his third start of the season, worked four innings and allowed just one run on three hits while striking out three. He delivered his strongest outing of the year but did not factor into the decision.
Left-hander
Eric Orloff relieved Murphy and worked 3.1 brilliant innings to keep Arizona in the ballgame. Orloff (1-1) earned the win after holding the 'Lopes to two unearned runs on one hit while striking out four.
