TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Arizona Wildcats (3-1) went 2-0 in day one of the Cactus Classic. The Sand Cats pulled 4-1 wins over both Santa Clara (2-4) and Boise St. (3-3). Three pairs, Jasmine Safar/Dana Parker, Maja Kaiser/Sarah Blacker and Hope Shannon/Kali Uhl went undefeated on the day. Parker and Safar are the only fully undefeated Arizona pair, with a current record of 4-0. Arizona will be back at Bear Down Beach tomorrow (March 5) to take on Colorado Mesa and Hawaii. 

Arizona clinched their fifth win over Santa Clara, continuing their undefeated 5-0 record against the Broncos. Pairs Abby Russell/Dilara Gedikoglu and Shannon/Uhl both made quick work of earning Arizona's first two points in only two sets. Court four (Russell/Gedikoglu) saw a fast 21-8, 21-11, for the lowest set scores of the day. Courts two (Blacker/Kaiser) and three (Safar/Parker) both fell in the first but were able to rally in the second and third sets to win the back two points and the match for Arizona. 

The face off with the Boise St. Broncos is the Cats second this season. After walking away with a 4-1 win in the GCU invitational, the Cats were able to repeat their successes in Tucson. This the Sand Cats 11th win over the Broncos giving them an overall 11-0 undefeated streak. Three courts were able to secure the Arizona point in two sets, Blacker/Kaiser, Safar/Parker and Shannon/Uhl. All three pairs, as well as Parkhurst/Rennie on court one, are undefeated against the Broncos this season.

The Cats will be back at Bear Down Beach tomorrow for day two of the Cactus Classic. They will take on Colorado Mesa at 12:00 p.m. MST and Hawaii at 2:00 p.m. MST.
