TUCSON, Ariz. — The Arizona Wildcats (28-13, 13-8) scored early and often in a 14-4 thrashing of the Arizona State Sun Devils (20-21, 9-9) on Sunday afternoon at Hi Corbett Field.
The Wildcats hammered out 11 hits and drew eight walks en route to dropping 14 runs in the rivalry rubber match against ASU. Right fielder
Tanner O'Tremba (3), catcher
Daniel Susac (2), and center fielder
Mac Bingham (2) all logged multiple hits and combined to drive in nine RBI in the decisive victory.
Susac opened the scoring with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first and Arizona never relinquished the lead.
Starting pitcher
Garrett Irvin delivered exactly what the Wildcats needed: a quality start. The southpaw went six complete and allowed just three runs on six hits while striking out a pair to earn the win and improve to 4-2.
The Cats bullpen allowed just one more run over the final three frames, never allowing the Sun Devils a hint of a comeback opportunity.Â
