SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — A remarkable two-run rally in the top of the ninth fell just short as the Arizona Wildcats (37-23) dropped their final game of the Pac-12 Tournament to the Stanford Cardinal (40-14) by a final score of 5-4 on Saturday morning.
First baseman
Noah Turley sparked the rally with a leadoff single, moved to second on a wild pitch, and came in to score the first run on an RBI triple roped down the left field line by designated hitter
Tommy Splaine. Left fielder
Mac Bingham followed on the next pitch with a sac fly to cut Stanford's lead to one run.
Arizona manged two get two more baserunners on before the rally was halted, ending the Wildcats run in the Pac-12 Tournament.
The Wildcats bullpen was spectacular on Saturday morning, working six innings and limiting the Cardinal to just one earned run on five hits while striking out six.
Next up for Arizona is the NCAA Selection Show, which will be televised on ESPN2 this coming Monday, May 30 at 9:00 a.m. MST. It will also be available to stream on
WatchESPN.
