LOS ANGELES, Calif. — The Arizona Wildcats (32-16, 13-9) dropped their series opener to the USC Trojans (23-20, 7-15) on a final score of 6-1 on Friday night in LA.
Arizona starting pitcher
TJ Nichols turned in a strong performance, striking out nine over six innings of work while allowing four runs on six hits. He took the loss, moving to 5-3 on the year.
The Wildcats got on the board for the first and only time in the sixth inning. Left fielder
Chase Davis led off the frame with a hustle double to right, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt, and came home on a sac fly from third baseman
Tony Bullard.
Left-hander
Javyn Pimental tossed a scoreless, hitless inning out of the Wildcats bullpen and picked up a strikeout along the way.
Right fielder
Tanner O'Tremba and first baseman
Tommy Splaine both made highlight catches on defense and the Wildcats posted an error-free performance.
