TUCSON, Ariz. — Arizona Baseball catcher
Daniel Susac has been selected by the Oakland Athletics with the 19th
overall pick in the first round of the 2022 Major League Baseball Draft. He is the 274th MLB Draft selection in program history and the 12th taken in the first round.
Susac, a two-time unanimous All-American and Pac-12 All-Conference honoree, rewrote the Arizona record books across two standout seasons in Tucson. He is the highest selected Wildcat since Kevin Newman
 was selected 19th
 overall in the 2015
 MLB Draft.
Over the course of 125 games played in two seasons Susac posted a .351 career batting average with 98 runs scored, 43 doubles, three triples, 24 home runs, 126 RBI, a .586 slugging percentage, and a .412 on-base percentage. Behind the plate defensively the Wildcats everyday starting catcher worked his way to a sparkling .992 fielding percentage on nearly 1000 chances.
Susac's extensive list of honors and awards include two unanimous All-America campaigns, a pair of Pac-12 All-Conference selections, semifinalist distinction from the Golden Spikes Award and Dick Howser Trophy, the 2021 National Co-Freshman of the Year nod from
Collegiate Baseball, a coaches vote as the 2021 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, and much more.
As a sophomore in 2022 he put together one of the most successful seasons in program history. The Roseville, California native posted just the 10th 100-hit season in Arizona history on the way to registering an astounding .366 batting average. Susac also picked up 50 runs scored, 19 doubles, two triples, 12 home runs, and 61 RBI to go with a .582 slugging percentage and .429 on-base percentage. Susac's hits came in bunches, with the standout sophomore logging 33 multi-hit performances, the fourth best single-season mark in program history — he finished the year with more multi-hit games than games with zero or one hit.
He broke onto the scene as a freshman in 2021 and helped guide Arizona to their 18th appearance in the College World Series. He tore through his first taste of collegiate competition to the tune of a .335 batting average and piled up 48 runs, 24 doubles, one triple, 12 home runs, and 65 RBI. He set the Wildcats freshman record and ranked fifth nationally in doubles and broke numerous freshman conference play records.
