UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – Arizona Cross Country competed at the Pac-12 Championships on Friday. This year's conference championship meet was hosted by the University of Washington at Chambers Creek Regional Park.
Ian Sanchez Lopez and
Sailor Hutton ended as the top finishers for the men's and women's teams.

"We competed against some of the toughest teams in the country today," said Head Coach
Bernard Lagat. "We came here, we learned, and we competed well. Now we can use that experience for the future championships coming up soon, the NCAA Western Regionals. Coming back, we know where we are and we are going to compete tough."

Ian Sanchez Lopez and freshman
Michael Urbanski led the way for the Wildcats in the men's 8k race. The two finished right next to each other, with Sanchez Lopez clocking a time of 24:00.5 and finishing 36th and Urbanski running a personal best time of 24:00.9 and placing 37th. Urbanski lowered his previous personal best 8k time by over 30 seconds. Additionally, Sanchez Lopez has now finished first for the Arizona Men at their two latest competitions. At one point during the race, he was placed as high as 10th.
Noah Jodon finished as the team's third runner with a time of 24:25.3. He was followed by
Brennan Foody (24:28.1) and
Cooper Quigley (24:41.0). Furthermore, freshmen
Gibson Kibia and
Andrew Gibby logged big personal bests on the day. Kibia shaved over a minute off his PR with a time of 24:57.80 and Gibby lowered his PR by over 30 seconds with a time of 25:27.70.

On the women's side, senior
Sailor Hutton clocked a season best time of 20:33.9 on her way to a top finish for the Arizona Women. Hutton placed 41st overall and has finished first for the team in all their competitions this year. Hutton was followed by fellow senior
Alisa Lyesina, who ran a time of 21:14.8. Freshman
Sorcha Shiu was the team's third runner, clocking a time of 21:46.5. She was followed by Kelly Wetteland (22:03.1), who is a member of Arizona triathlon's team, and senior
Johnnie Mitchell (22:07.5). Wetteland also scored for the ladies at the Dave Murray Invitational earlier in the season. This is the third consecutive week that an Arizona triathlete has competed and scored for the Wildcats.

The Arizona Men finished seventh overall at the Pac-12 Championships with a total team score of 195. The Arizona Women placed 10th overall with a score of 296 in a race that featured six ranked women's teams.
