HONOLULU - Arizona won their first of two matches against Hawai'i 5-2 on Friday, Feb. 10 at UH Tennis Complex. Despite dropping the doubles point, the Cats battled back in singles play. 

First off the doubles court was Salma Ziouti and Parker Fry who won their match 6-2 against Ana Vilcek and Satsuki Takamura. Next off was Kayla Wilkins and Reece Carter who lost their match 6-3 at three doubles. It was a battle for the doubles point on court one where Midori Castillo and Belen Nevenhoven fell 6-3 to Rita Pinto and Klara Novakova. This marked the first doubles point the Wildcats lost in the last three matches. 

Arizona put in the work during singles competition and walked away with five wins to finalize the victory over Hawai'i. Courts three, four and five got it done in straight sets. At four singles, Carter finished 6-1, 6-0 against Madison Kim to even out the overall score. Freshman Tanvi Narendran put the Wildcats in the lead after she defeated Pinto 6-1, 6-3 at five singles. Wilkins extended Arizona's lead further with her 6-4, 7-5 win against Novakova. 

Fry clinched the match for Arizona at six singles when she beat Anna Kern in three sets 6-7(3), 6-2, 6-1. Then Castillo extended the Cats' lead once again, defeating Takamura 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 at two singles. In the No. 1 spot, Ziouti dropped her match 7-5, 3-6, 4-6 against Vilcek which gave Hawai'i their second and final point of the day. 

The Wildcats are back at it against Hawai'i in another match on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. MT.
